Process:
The creation of these pieces of art started off with two little strips of paper: one white and one scratchboard. With them, we experimented with different tones ranging from white to black. Once we honed the delicate touch required to produce the different tones and shades, we went on to produce stippled and scratchboard images of pears. Later, we moved onto our main assignment: replicating an image of our choice. I chose two images, where the behavior of light was prevalent, and from there, I just recreated the images while replicating the technique.
Purpose:
The purpose of this project was to enhance our comprehension and skills to create different tones and textures through an unfamiliar media. Personally, in addition to developing our skills, this project developed our intuition on deciding which medium is well suited for certain pieces of art.
Analysis:
Art as a whole is meant to delve deep into the soul of the artist and express what’s inside. This project was no different. For me, these pieces were an expression of the way light conforms to certain objects and mediums- which is something that has constantly fascinated me. On a larger scale, besides the somewhat flawless execution, creating these pieces of art made me push myself, to step out of the box and create a unique pieces of art that is instantly recognizable as my creation.
